Clone Your Best Customers: The Ultimate "Trigger" You're Overlooking πŸ”

Sometimes we complicate things, but it can be as easy as going through our list of favorite clients (we all have it), and use them to find hundreds of companies and people just like them.

Hey there!

If you're in the GTM department, you've probably heard everyone talking about "triggers" lately - those news items, posts, or company changes that make prospects more receptive to your outreach.

I love that approach too! But let's be honest - sometimes those triggers:

  • Take forever to happen

  • Don't happen at all

  • Keep us hyper-focused on a small pool of companies

Meanwhile, there are tons of companies already in that "ready to buy" phase we're looking for.

Where Are These Dream Prospects?

The answer is simpler than you'd think: in your CRM.

And no, I'm not talking about that dusty list of closed-lost opportunities that every rep has touched over the years. I'm talking about your current best customers.

If they're your best, why not clone them? Just copy and paste them into your CRM. I wish it was that easy! πŸ˜…

Enter: Company Lookalikes

This is exactly what it sounds like - tools that let you paste in the domain of your best clients and get back a complete list of companies just like them:

  • Same industry

  • Similar employee count

  • Comparable services

  • Matching locations

Imagine reaching out to these companies with a message like: "We're already helping [Company Just Like Yours] achieve [Specific Result]..." - THAT'S the real trigger! At minimum, they'll be curious about how you're helping their competitors.

Here's How To Do It:

Manual Method:

  • Go to Ocean.io and get that list of lookalike companies/people most likely to need your service

  • Handle outreach manually in your CRM

Automated Method (my preference):

  1. Import your best clients into Clay

  1. Connect Ocean.io to that table to generate hundreds of new target companies

  1. Apply filters if needed (I filter for companies that are hiring and/or recently funded)

  1. Find your ICP contacts within those companies

  1. Create hyper-personalized messages using AI

For this example, I did this with just ONE company, targeting lookalikes exclusively in the UK and Spain and got 88 results. Imagine expanding this with more of our best clients and additional regions!
